The CNAP Financial Literacy & Economic Empowerment Program is an 8-week, community-based learning experience designed to help newcomers gain real financial confidence, avoid common settlement risks, and build a strong foundation for long-term success in Canada. Finances can be overwhelming — new systems, new terminology, new rules, and new responsibilities. This program gives you the knowledge and tools you need to make smart decisions without fear, confusion, or pressure. This is a non-commercial, safe-learning environment. CNAP does not sell, endorse, or recommend any financial products. ✔ What You’ll Learn (Week-by-Week Breakdown) Week 1 — Introduction to the Canadian Financial System Banking basics, account types, fees, safe banking, terminology 101, and how to avoid newcomer scams. Week 2 — Budgeting & Cashflow for Newcomers Understanding your cost of living, creating a realistic Canadian budget, tracking expenses, and managing financial stress. Week 3 — Building & Protecting Your Credit How credit scores work in Canada, how to build credit safely, what harms your credit, and how to avoid predatory lending. Week 4 — Debt, Scams & Consumer Protection Identifying high-interest traps, payday loans, fraud awareness, and your rights under Canadian consumer protection laws. Week 5 — Savings Foundations (TFSA, RRSP, FHSA) How to save for emergencies, taxes, retirement, or a first home — explained simply and clearly. Week 6 — Investing for Beginners (Safe, Simple, No Selling) Understanding investing basics, risks, and strategies — with no product promotion, no advisors, and no upselling. Week 7 — Housing, Renting & Long-Term Planning Lease rules, tenant rights, rental red flags, cost expectations, planning for future financial stability. Cancellation Policy
Online Booking Policy (CNAP Workshops) By booking a workshop through our online system, you agree to the following: Booking All registrations are made online through our booking form. A confirmation email is sent automatically with your date, time, and connection details. Reminders Email reminders are sent before your session. It is your responsibility to check your email and join on time. Cancellations and Changes You may cancel or reschedule up to 24 hours before the workshop at no cost. Late cancellations (within 24 hours of the start time) and no‑shows may limit your access to future dates. No‑shows If you do not attend and do not cancel in advance, the booking is marked as a no‑show. After repeated no‑shows, you may be moved to “standby only” for future sessions. Session Changes by CNAP CNAP may reschedule a workshop, combine groups, or cancel a session (for example, low enrollment, instructor illness, or technical issues). If this happens, you will be notified by email and invited to choose a new date. Technology Requirements (online sessions) For online workshops, you are responsible for having: A stable internet connection A device with audio and (where required) video Access to Zoom or the platform named in your confirmation email Respect and Safety CNAP reserves the right to remove participants who engage in harassment, discrimination, or disruptive behaviour toward instructors, staff, guest speakers, or fellow participants. Privacy Your information is used only for registration, attendance tracking, and program reporting (including reporting to funders when required). CNAP does not share personal information with third parties without your consent, except where required by law or funding agreements.
