Canadian immigration update — worth watching
Canada has recently held Express Entry draws that place a much stronger emphasis on French-language proficiency. In some of these targeted draws, candidates with strong French received Invitations to Apply at significantly lower CRS scores than we’ve seen in most general draws in recent years.
This does not mean French speakers are guaranteed permanent residence, and it won’t apply the same way to everyone. Express Entry remains a points-based system, and individual profiles still matter. However, it does signal a meaningful policy shift that could create additional pathways for certain candidates.
For entrepreneurs and professionals in Francophone regions — including North Africa, West Africa, Lebanon, and France — this is a development worth paying close attention to.
This is a significant shift, and it won’t apply the same way to everyone.
We’ll share a more detailed, plain-language breakdown tomorrow on what this could mean in practice — and who it may be most relevant for.
